Footmech takes an holistic view of the reasons behind chronic, repetitive or migrating injury. The symptom of a condition is often the latest manifestation of a history before. Footmech uses a combination of foot structure assessment, range of motion, pelvic alignment, soft tissue palpation, movement tests and an in depth previous history to determine the cause of the prevailing symptoms.
Treatments involve, manual therapies including joint mobilisations, Stecco Fascial Manipulation, soft tissue massage, acupuncture, Compex Muscle Stimulation, taping , footwear advice and orthotics to assist improvement in function.
Footmech takes pride in assisting as far as possible without the use of orthoses. These are used only when absolutely necessary to assist improvement.
Stecco® Fascial Manipulation® is a manual therapy approach that Footmech has integrated into a holistic approach to dealing with Musculoskeletal aches and pains. It involves the manipulation of the fascia, a connective tissue that surrounds and supports muscles, bones, and organs in the body. Alongside an appreciation of foot and leg structure and function, it aims to identify and release areas of tension or restriction in the fascia. This can improve mobility, range of motion and function, by improving co-ordination and control. It can reduce pain and inflammation and restore tissue health.
This technique uses precise pressure and stretching movements on specific points of the fascia, often guided by the patient’s feedback to find the most effective approach. The tissues are massaged or manipulated to illicit a change in the fluidity of the fascia, which then has the benefit of easing pain and improving function.
It is used to treat a variety of musculoskeletal conditions, including chronic pain, sports injuries, and postural imbalances.
On the whole it is a useful tool alongside, the Podiatrist approach to dealing with foot function and its effect on pain from the foot to the lower back.
Compex NMES (Neuromuscular Electrical Stimulation) can be used in a variety of ways. The device has a range of frequencies that each have a specific benefit and function on the muscle or area being treated. It can be used to relieve pain, increase circulation, reduce tension and strengthen muscles.
NMES involves the use of electrical impulses to stimulate the nerves that control specific muscles, causing them to contract and relax. This process can help to strengthen muscles, improve endurance, and reduce muscle atrophy.
Specific muscle groups can be targeted in treatment to achieve desired benefits. Adjusting the intensity of the electrical impulses can achieve the desired level of muscle activation. NMES can be particularly useful for individuals who are recovering from an injury or surgery and need to rebuild muscle strength or improve their range of motion.
The Compex can be used in combination with exercise programs.
Foot joint mobilisation is a manual therapy technique used to improve joint mobility and reduce pain in the foot and ankle. This involves the gentle application of rhythmic forces to the joints of the foot to encourage movement and improve range of motion. It is useful in reducing stiffness, it can help with subluxed joints and some rearfoot varus alignments.
The foot joint mobilisation technique involves gently moving various joints through range of motions. This takes the joint to ranges it does not normally work, and in so doing assists in improving mobility, and proprioceptive feedback to the brain. It also reduces any stiffness or discomfort.
Foot joint mobs can be used to treat a variety of conditions.
Conditions such as Plantar Fasciitis, ankle sprains, Arthritis, Hallux Limitus/ Rigidus and other conditions that affect the foot and ankle are commonly treated. This technique is often used with other treatments, to complement and augment the effects, to provide a comprehensive approach to foot and ankle care.
We are dedicated to provide the most up to date approaches in functional foot care foot available for residents in Reigate and the surrounding Surrey towns.
Footmech has a wide scope of practice that encompass all aspects of footcare. The main areas of focus are functional bio-mechanics which encompasses assessing and treating Musculoskeletal conditions that manifest in the foot, ankles, legs, knees, hips and back.
Other areas of focus are nail and skin conditions such as in-growing toe nails, fungal nail infections, verrucae, corns and calluses.
